Hi Amanda,

Congratulations on getting through college, and good luck getting started! There are several photographers in the Jackson area, many of whom are very good. I think what you need to do is find your niche. In this area, I believe I am the only one doing really contemporary children's portraiture catering to a discriminating clientele. There is a wedding photog here - her name is Heather Hornbeak and she owns Cedarway Photography - who is doing the same sort of thing with her photography. It is very photojournalistic. Almost all of the photogs here are very traditional, so if that is your style you need to find something that sets you apart from them whether it be price, customer service, product offerings, etc. Then I would advise that you hire a good web designer to set up your online image, which nowadays as you know is super important. Anyway, if you have any questions I would be happy to help. You can email me at carrie@carrieprewitt.com.

Thanks for looking at my site!

Hi Carrie,

Congratulations on your fame! I wanted to ask you about photography in the Jackson area. I've recently relocated from Missouri after graduating from college and I'm looking at getting back into photography. I served as an assistant wedding photographer during college and recently bought my own equipment. Any advice for a relative amateur?

Thanks,
Amanda

Carrie,

Congratulations. What an honor. You should be so proud of yourself and how far you have come in a short year. I so appreciate your help and enjoy looking at your blog and your website for inspiration.

Wow...I know (and talk to) a published photographer. You're famous and that means I KNOW somebody famous.

Truly, congratualions on this huge accomplishment.
