10 on the 10th – April

After a flurry of catching up my blog this morning, it’s time for the April 10 on the 10th! 10 on the 10th is a blog circle of some really talented ladies who share our photography together each month. (See our very first 10 on the 10th here) This month’s theme is EMOTION. My heart really leans towards black and white images much of the time, and to me, emotion is best portrayed in black and white.

And here are several images of my own kids. Of course, I feel most emotional about them!

And last, my own sweet daughter, crying over her lost front teeth:(

After you are done looking at this post, please head on over to very talented Katie Ritter Brenkert of Everyday Moments, to keep the circle going. I absolutely love her use of color, and the emotional quality of her work. Here is her link!

Cherry Trees!

The cherry trees are finally blooming, and boy are they putting on a show this year! I decided to take some pictures of my own kids here after completing a beautiful family session in this spot on the same morning. I even showed my 11-year-old how to use my camera (he got a quick back-button focus tutorial!) to take a few pictures of my daughter and me. I am so happy I got into the frame for a few pictures!

Realm of the Ivory Princess

I had an itch to take some pictures of my daughter, and it suddenly struck me to use my crown prop with her. These pictures were taken in and around Jackson, TN. Some were taken in a field and the others were taken at the oldest church in Jackson, First Presbyterian. The white house pictured here (Caroline’s castle for the day!) is part of the church property, as is the stone bridge. I have taken thousands of pictures here over the years of families, brides, and kids, but it never occurred to me to use this location as a part of a story until this day. I imagined my daughter as the princess of her own realm. Many people have pointed out to me to resemblance to Narnia – this was not intentional but now I call the picture with Caroline and the stone lion “The Narnia Picture”.  The clothes Caroline is wearing were pulled together last minute – the dress is my dress (knee-length on me) and the vest was part of one of her winter outfits. Sometimes last-minute ideas can pay off handsomely!

P.S. I loved these pictures so much that I also had a really nice album made of all the pictures. I’m so happy I did that:)
