Foggy day

One very foggy morning as we were on our way to school, I stopped the car to take some pictures of my son in this beautiful foggy field! SO happy I thought to grab my camera on the way out the door. You never know when you will need it!

Julia and Gracie

I love these sweet little girls, and I love the home and neighborhood where they live! Their home is quite old and has a wonderful history. I especially love the pictures of Julia and Gracie around the stairs, since former generations of the previous homeowner’s family have had all their bridal pictures taken there! I can just imagine Julia and Gracie in their bridal gowns someday standing on these same stairs.

10 on the 10th – March

I am so honored to have been asked to participate in a 10 on the 10th circle with a very talented group of ladies. Since this is our first month, we have decided to not adopt a theme, but to instead share some photos that best represent us. In this circle, we link to each other to gain inspiration both for us and for our readers.

After trying to find my “niche” for many years, I have finally decided (or, my heart decided) that children’s fine art photography is what I love to do the very most.

I love conceptual images too and often challenge myself to achieve visual art images with my work, in addition to the “typical” photography I normally do. So mixed in with my typical work, you will see images of Red Riding Hood, among others.  I think it is very important for photographers to challenge themselves!

I utilize natural surroundings and textures, and love to play with color tones. I prefer not to use actions, but instead try to do everything by hand.

After you are done looking at this post, please head on over to very talented Katie Ritter Brenkert of Everyday Moments, to keep the circle going. I absolutely love her use of color, and the emotional quality of her work. Here is her link!

The Olivia Act

I am happy to participate in The Olivia Act with thousands of my fellow photographers around the world.

The Olivia Act, named after one of the children killed in Newtown, Ct., was started by a photographer who wishes to remain anonymous. Olivia’s family had family pictures taken a short time before she was killed. Those pictures are precious and now priceless to them. Upon hearing this, this photographer was moved to give away a 30 minute family photo shoot and has challenged other photographers to do the same. We sometimes feel there is nothing we can do in the face of tragedy. But we can give of ourselves to make the world a better place.

We go about our daily lives and sometimes we don’t take the time or have the resources to have family photos taken.
So I am now taking nominations for a family who you think would appreciate this gift, who may not otherwise have the resources to have family pictures made. This session will take place after the New Year. I will be taking Nominations until Dec. 31, 2012. The family chosen will remain anonymous should they choose, and will never show up in my newsfeed as recipients of this gift.

Please inbox the family’s name, contact information and a brief summary of the family’s needs. Please put “THE OLIVIA ACT NOMINATION” in the subject line. The chosen family will be contacted via email or phone call. Please do not post their information here. The gift is a session and a collection of digital portraits, so they may have priceless keepsakes to adorn their home. Please ONLY send nominations to Thank you very much, and remember to let your light shine!
