Baby Joshua

Today was a wonderful day…  Today I had the privilege of holding a newborn baby, only 6 days old.  He is the luckiest little man in the world, having two beautiful parents who love him utterly and completely.  Their love for each other and for their new baby is so sweet to witness, and I know they are blessed.  I don’t need to say anymore – I will let these incredible images speak for themselves.

Sydney and Tyler – Sneak Peek!

I photographed Sydney almost a year ago, and I cannot believe how much she has grown! And now she has a beautiful baby brother, with the most gorgeous blue eyes.  Sydney and Tyler came all the way from California to have their pictures made!  OK, well, the fact that their grandparents live here probably had a little to do with it…

Sydney and Tyler behaved like angels, and Sydney laughed so much!  Last time I photographed her, smiling wasn’t her thing that day.  Tyler is the happiest, most laid-back baby I’ve ever seen!  And those eyes…

I don’t usually put so many pictures in a sneak peek, but look at the following pictures of Sydney on the steps and tell me how you would have narrowed it down, because I couldn’t figure out which one was the best.  Except I do know that the first one will definitely go into my updated website portfolio – I could not have asked for a cuter, more perfect pose.  Look what she’s doing with her feet, and the angle of her leg, and the turn of her head, and the way she is holding the flowers… Sometimes the fates come together to give me an exceptional photograph, and this one is a definite keeper.

PUBLISHED!

I was ecstatic, over-the-moon, and downright shocked yesterday when I opened my July issue of Shutterbug Magazine, and a portrait of my son I submitted over six months ago was in it! Page 12, to be exact. Here is the portrait, which you will recognize from the opening flash slideshow on my website:

Shutterbug Magazine, which has an international circulation, is the number one information and buying source for serious photographers today.  It is available at all major newsstands and also online at www.shutterbug.com.  As of now, the July issue is not available online because it is still, well, June…

Each issue contains a column called “Picture This”, to which hundreds of photographers from around the world submit photographs on a given theme. Only ten portraits were selected for the July issue. The theme for July is “Personal Portraits”, for which submittals were to be of the photographer’s own family members, showing the true personality of the subject. I submitted William’s portrait, taken at the N.C. & St. L. Depot downtown, because to me it really does illustrate his true spirit. Plus I love his red boots. I’m going to be so so sad when he decides he’s too old to wear red rainboots anymore. Just like last night when he announced to my husband and me: “Guys [yes, these are his exact words], I know who REALLY brings the tooth fairy money. It’s YA’LL!” To which I said, “Well, is the tooth fairy real to you?” and my husband said, “You’d better not let Santa Claus hear you say that…” and then he looked really concerned. And he still put the tooth (which was sadly lost in a bizarre slip-and-slide accident at his very first playdate at a new friend’s house) under his pillow.  But I digress…

The portrait is currently hanging in my display at the Medina Boutique, and also in the less public “Over William’s Bed Display”.

William is now telling everybody that he’s famous because he is in a magazine.  I hope I have not inadvertantly created a monster…

Come July 1st, I will be at Books-a-Million, Walmart, and Walgreens buying up every available copy of Shutterbug Magazine. So if you want one too you’d better get there early.

Joey and Anna – Sneak Peek!

I had a wonderful session yesterday with this adorable family. When I saw Joey with that red hair and his cute cute glasses, I had a feeling it was going to be a great session, and when I saw his beautiful baby sister Anna (And yes I do think her hair will be red too, just like her Mom!) I knew I’d get some fantastic pictures.  Joey is incredibly smart.  He talks all the time.  He really likes tigers:)  I hope you had a great time at the zoo today, Joey!  And his sister Anna is just as mild-natured as they come.  I think I heard her cry once for about 2 seconds.  All in all, I had a fantastic time.  Enjoy your sneak peek!

Don’t they look like they should be in a magazine?

I had to include this next picture because I thought it was so representative of family life, and also shows what really goes on at my photo sessions:)  Joey was having his snack while Dad was valiently attempting to change Anna’s clothes.  Of course, 7 month old babies are really good at doing that sideways-twisty thing when they don’t want to be changed, so Anna is just a blur in this picture.

All that smiling, twisting, and interacting really wore Anna out.  She was asleep before her head hit the mattress.  And I was so glad, because then I got to get my favorite kind of picture.  Sleeping babies are the most beautiful, innocent, and sweet – don’t you agree?
