Halloween!!!
I love Halloween. In fact, I love it so much that I’m actually going to post some pictures of my own kids on the blog even though I normally don’t do that… But who can resist kids in costumes, most especially if you are a children’s photographer? So here are the kids at our Halloween party and my own son and daughter, all dressed up to go trick-or-treating.

And tuckered-out afterwards:

Here are a couple of images from a recent session I did with my own daughter. I actually did a “real” full-length session with her just like I do with everyone else and it was so much fun! I had planned to do the same thing with my son but he decided to cut his own hair. Yes. So I’m waiting until his hair grows back a little to do his session!

Little Patrick
I had so much fun taking fun of Little Pat, less than two weeks new. I could not believe how tiny he was! Just so sweet and small and, well, adorable. Little Pat was definitely happier all swaddled up (his dad is the household swaddling expert and had it down to a science!). Then again, I’m happier all bundled up myself so I can hardly blame the sweet baby for fussing when mean Miss Carrie made his mom take every stitch of clothing off of him. Luckily he adapted quickly and we got some amazing newborn shots.
This session really lent itself to black and white images, so there are a slew of those, although there are some color ones too.
Little Pat has lots of heirloom items from his dad, and I really enjoyed incorporating those into some of the shots. The rattle Little Pat is holding belonged to his dad.
Again I must say that I have the best job in the world. I get to hold newborn babies and be a part of the wonder of childhood, the joy (and stress!) of parenthood, and the exuberant spirit of closeknit family life.
You’ll see Little Pat again in a few months and I’m sure none of us will believe how big he will have grown.

Meet beautiful Eliza and handsome Jude. Not only are they beautiful and handsome, they are really really fast! I think I can say that Jude was probably the fastest kid I have ever photographed, and that is definitely saying something in this line of work! And little Eliza, for being so little, definitely makes her feelings known, mostly by utilizing the tried-and-true toddler “silent protest” technique of suddenly lying on the ground. They were both so funny and sweet, and Eliza kept wanting me to hold her which just made my day. I photographed them on a perfect autumn day at sunset, so the light was just absolutely beautiful.
Jude and Eliza live in a very serene and wooded area and I had so much fun just wandering around the fields taking their pictures. They are certainly lucky little children to be so very loved by their sweet parents. One reason I love this job is that every time I do a family session I am reminded again of all the beauty and love that exists in the world.

Coming up next on the blog: John Patrick, the sweetest, tiniest, little newborn… So stay tuned!

What can you say when someone you love has one of the happiest days of her life? Well, first of all, you can show up with your camera, because in this case pictures speak a thousand words. So these are for you, dear friend. May you always be as happy as you were on your beautiful wedding day, and may you always be surrounded by love. Because of all the people I know, you deserve it the most.
By the way, it’s really hard to take pictures when you are crying. Thank goodness for image stabilization lenses…

I couldn’t have posed this one any better. How beautiful is she???

Amazement, Wonder, Squeaks, and Siblings…
I had the honor today to take pictures of beautiful little Lindsey, only one day old, in her hospital room. I took pictures of her mom and sister and brother a few weeks ago, so they will look familiar to you if you are a follower of my blog. Can I just say again how much I love hospital shoots? I never can seem to remember from shoot to shoot how really tiny newborns are. Lindsey (I am not sure if it is spelled Lindsay or Lindsey, so please forgive me if I’m getting it wrong!) is just the tiniest little thing! Hannah and Jackson were SO sweet to their brand new baby sister, hugging her so gently and fretting when Lindsey cried. Hannah asked if Lindsey was going to go back in her Mommy’s tummy, which was so so funny. No Hannah, Lindsey is not going back in there!
Little Lindsey had a hard time getting comfortable (partly because we kept taking her paci away so we could get a few pictures without it) and instead of really crying, made the cutest squeaky sounds, just like a little baby bird! She is so very loved. What a lucky little girl to have such a beautiful, loving family. Her Daddy is in Iraq, so these pictures are especially for him.

Thank goodness Lindsey’s grandmother is here to help…

Coming up soon on the blog: Another maternity/sibling shoot. Stay tuned!

Last year when we went to the beach, Caroline wouldn’t get near the sand. She wouldn’t even look at the sand, much less touch it with any part of her body. This year all she wanted to do was run headlong into the ocean. William still just wanted to build sandcastles. Which Caroline just stepped on. William learned to use a skimboard (or skinboard, as he calls it). We watched a huge fireworks show on the beach, went to a kidsfest with jumpers and facepainting, visited a waterpark, and went on a sailboat ride. Mostly, none of us wanted to come home.
But we have lots and lots of pictures. So forgive my indulgence as I show you the modern equivalent of those endless vacation slideshows my neighbors used to make my family sit through when I was a kid in the seventies. Actually, this has probably been the busiest week of my whole summer and I have tons of sessions to get finished and blogged about. But I decided for once to take the evening off and work on pictures of my own kids.

Welcome to the World, Baby Girl Josie…
If you follow this blog, you have seen recently the beautiful pictures of Jacob and his mom Nicole. Well, meet little Josie Kate. She is one of the most beautiful newborns I’ve ever seen. I had the honor of going to the hospital this weekend to take pictures of her, when she wasn’t even 24 hours old yet. Most newborns are sort of splotchy and red, but Josie must have inherited her mother’s lovely skin, because I did not even have to retouch these pictures at all. These images came staight out of the camera looking just like this, except for changing some of them to black and white or erasing (just for this blog of course) Josie’s last name from her hospital bracelet.
I always told my little boy when his own baby sister was born that babies don’t know much, but they know all about love. And this will certainly be true for little Josie, who has the great fortune of being born into a family full of love.
Did I mention recently that I love my job?
Welcome to the world, baby girl.

The sweetest Father’s Day present ever - see her eyes open, gazing at her Daddy?

Drew
I was honored to be part of Drew’s first birthday party. He was the smiliest little boy - so happy and easy-going! Drew’s favorite things: looking for Daisy the dog, sticks, leaves, hiding behind the curtains, chasing the ball, and most of all, CAKE!
Enjoy these adorable pictures of Drew. And an aside… I swear that I did not enhance Drew’s blue eyes in any way. They are actually that blue! Amazing.

And the sign for “More”… How adorable is that?

“Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt…”
Erin and I explored several areas of town for this shoot. First we went to the Depot museum downtown, but the sun was really bright that morning so we walked a little way down the track, where we found some interesting graffiti. I have to admire someone who spray paints Kurt Vonnegut quotes under the overpasses of Jackson.
Erin is so beautiful, and we had a great time!

My, how fast they grow…
First of all, I have to apologize to all my regular readers for having to take a little hiatus from blogging for a little while. I have been busy beyond belief. But now that school is out for me and for my kids, I should have more time to get back in the swing of things.
A couple of announcements: Summer sessions are filling up fast, so book yours soon!
Also, I have a new facebook page for Carrie Prewitt Photography. Come check it out at http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/pages/Jackson-TN/Carrie-Prewitt-Photography/60155247191 and become a fan!
I had a little “mini-session” with my own sweet girl a few weeks ago while her brother was in school, and realized that one of the images looked really familiar… How fast do they grow? Too fast.

I can’t believe she will be 3 this summer!
