Madeline’s Birthday Party - Sneak Peek!

April 27th, 2008

This one is a really big sneak peek - there were WAY too many adorable kids at this great party for me to narrow it down sufficiently.  I got great pictures of each child there so look for the gallery to be up by Wednesday.

Matthew - Sneak Peek!

April 21st, 2008

I had so much fun at this session yesterday.  Matthew is such a handsome (and very smart!) little man. His family is beautiful, and I’m so glad I got to meet them.

As I was taking pictures of Matthew beside a tree in his backyard, he pointed behind my head and said in a very matter-of-fact voice, “There’s a bee.”  I said in a placating tone, “Well, it’s spring, so you’ll probably see lots of bees around.”  I took a few more pictures and he said again, in a no more excited voice, “There’s another bee!”  So I said, “Well, you’ll probably see more than one at a time, because wherever there are flowers, there will be bees.”   I took a few more pictures and then Matthew said, “Well, there sure are a LOT of bees…” So I turned around , and not 6 feet over my head was THIS:

At which point I said, “My goodness, you were right, there ARE a lot of bees  (!!!!!!!)… why don’t we go back to the house and get your Mom!” His parents did not know the bees were there.

So Matthew, there’s the promised picture of the bees!

Sneak Peek - Baby M

April 14th, 2008

I had such a fantastic time at this newborn session yesterday. Little baby M was born two weeks ago and is so lucky to have such a sweet family! His big brother is WAY cute, and was just great with the new baby. Thanks for letting me be a part of your day - enjoy the sneak peek!

Glorious Spring…

April 13th, 2008

I decided to take my camera with me on my daily neighborhood walk with my kids, and I’m so glad I did! Dogwoods blooming, jasmine dripping, wisteria weeping, children screaming because their mean mommy wouldn’t let them get INTO a sinkhole by the road because they “just wanted to see what is down there!” OK, besides that little incident, it was a perfect day.

And later that same day I was playing with the beautiful late afternoon light that comes in my bedroom window…

I guess if we tried to take a walk tomorrow it would be a winter walk. 49 degrees is the high? Yikes… I’m glad I’m doing a newborn session tomorrow INSIDE.

My new display is up!

April 2nd, 2008

I now have a new display up at the Medina Boutique! If you haven’t visited the Boutique already, make the short trip over to see all Laurie’s adorable spring clothes for kids. She has the CUTEST birthday boy and girl shirts with appliquéd cupcakes and candles on them, adorable polka-dotted dresses (I am such a sucker for polka-dots), and all sorts of cool accessories. There is even a play area for the kids so you can shop in peace. And while you’re there you can pick up one of my brochures - make sure to take advantage of the $50 print credit coupon on the back when you book your session. Then go have lunch down the block at the Medina Cafe - great food, as I can personally attest. Although I shouldn’t have had that piece of pie. I’m still feeling guilty about the piece of pie. But oh, it was so good. Maybe I should have brought a piece home for a midnight snack my husband. Well, I do need to go back there next week anyway to eat more pie bring some more brochures to the Boutique, so I can get myself my husband another piece of pie then. OK, that settles it - you people need to go get my brochures so I can have an excuse to go back to Medina.

Here are some pictures from an Easter Egg Hunt that was held at the University where I teach. And yes, that is MY son dressed as a Power Ranger. Because Power Rangers are so Easter-y.

Habitat Women Build

April 1st, 2008

I was honored to be asked to take photos of this groundbreaking for the West Tennessee Women’s Journal a few weeks ago. Here is an excerpt from the Jackson Sun newspaper, reported by Tonya Smith-King:

Jenicia Haynes and her 5-year-old son, Jomari, got another step closer Monday to a place they can call home. An electrical fire destroyed their house on Jan. 26.

They watched Monday as heavy machinery tore up ground where their new home will soon go up in the Habitat Meadows subdivision in Jackson.

The project is a historic one for the Jackson-Madison County Habitat for Humanity. It is the first time the local chapter will participate in the nationwide “Women Build” program Habitat started in 1998. Haynes and other women volunteers will build her house in the subdivision. Women contractors are heading up the project.

I teared up when, while taking this picture, little Jomari said, “Mama, this is MY backyard!!!!” Hence the mile-wide smile on his face:

A happy volunteer:

I wonder if when Jomari remembers this day years from now, he mostly remembers the pink balloons:

Women helping other women… now that’s my kind of project!!!
