Cade and Josie - Sneak Peek!

August 25th, 2008

Oh my goodness… where do I start with this fabulous session?  First of all, I want to know how I am so lucky as to get to take pictures of the very cutest kids around?   Well, Cade and Josie fit the bill. We had a ball playing in the back yard and having races, and playing what Cade called the “No-Smiling Game”  (This is my method of eliciting a natural smile instead of a “Cheese” - tell them no smiles are allowed in an obviously fake stern tone and eventually they will smile for real! Only Cade was really good at it and he could “Not-Smile” for waaaaay longer than most kids.)

Then we moved over to their grandparents house and when we pulled into the driveway I thought I had died and gone to photographer heaven.  Sitting prettily off to the side was a gorgeous I-don’t-know-what-year Mustang which belonged to their grandfather when he was a teenager.  And to make it even more perfect, it matched their clothes! *big sigh*

I have also included a picture of Albert the turtle, which Cade and Josie have so kindly painted with an “A” so that he can distinguish himself from the other three turtles that live in the yard.  See, I told you they were sweet children.  How kind of them to think of Albert’s self-recognition!

Enjoy your sneak-peek!

Sydney and Tyler - Sneak Peek!

August 22nd, 2008

I photographed Sydney almost a year ago, and I cannot believe how much she has grown! And now she has a beautiful baby brother, with the most gorgeous blue eyes.  Sydney and Tyler came all the way from California to have their pictures made!  OK, well, the fact that their grandparents live here probably had a little to do with it…

Sydney and Tyler behaved like angels, and Sydney laughed so much!  Last time I photographed her, smiling wasn’t her thing that day.  Tyler is the happiest, most laid-back baby I’ve ever seen!  And those eyes…

I don’t usually put so many pictures in a sneak peek, but look at the following pictures of Sydney on the steps and tell me how you would have narrowed it down, because I couldn’t figure out which one was the best.  Except I do know that the first one will definitely go into my updated website portfolio - I could not have asked for a cuter, more perfect pose.  Look what she’s doing with her feet, and the angle of her leg, and the turn of her head, and the way she is holding the flowers… Sometimes the fates come together to give me an exceptional photograph, and this one is a definite keeper.

Preston’s Birthday Party - Sneak Peek!

August 14th, 2008

Preston turned 3 and he had a “Speed Racer” themed pool party in his backyard.  He was SO exuberant the entire time and was absolutely a joy to watch.  I think he was equally as excited about his Speed Racer napkin as he was about his presents!  By the way, he has never actually SEEN Speed Racer, but that is irrelevant.  Speed Racer is just cool whether he is on a napkin or on the big screen.

I love pool parties.  Little kids in bright bathing suits, wrapped in bright towels, faces covered with pizza and cake - to me this is the epitome of childhood.  Plus I get great action shots of kids jumping off diving boards and wearing silly goggles.  So here for your perusal are pictures of some of the very cutest kids I have ever seen gathered in one place:

to relent is sometimes a wonderful thing…

August 12th, 2008

After much much begging, pleading, whining, and self-searching, we have welcomed a new “baby” into our home.

I have always been a cat person.  Always.  I enjoy petting other people’s dogs and occasionally even walk one if I am house-sitting.  I think dogs are wonderful creatures and I also believe kids should have a dog to grow up with - to be a friend to them through thick and thin when no one else seems to understand the trials of just being a kid.  But this earnest philosophy has always been hypothetical until last Sunday, when I learned that sometimes even a cat person can be persuaded to go to the other side.  After all, who could resist this face?

I am now officially a dog person, at least for my own dog.  My son named him “Jack” without hesitation.  Somehow it suits him perfectly.  Laid-back, docile, and highly tolerant of my two active children, Jack has already taught me more than I have taught him - mostly that sometimes it is good to go outside of our comfort zone and try something new.  Jack will be a great adventure for our family.  Also, did I mention, HUGE? Yes, he is a St. Bernard.  People keep saying, “Oh my gosh, he’s going to be so BIG!!!” And I always say, “Yes, he will be about a foot tall.” When they look at me quizzically I say, “Well, he will mostly be lying down, so he will only be about a head tall!”

Caroline likes to say “Rest” - one of her favorite words - and demonstrate for Jack how it is done :)

“Nose” - another of her favorite words:

And in case you were wondering,  Jack is not always quite this docile, although it does seem to his standard mood. He is still a three month old puppy.  It is a little disconcerting to see a dog so big acting like a puppy and chasing his tail.  Hopefully soon I will get some shots of how proud Jack looks when he is “Sitting” like a good dog.

Coming this week - another birthday party sneak peek!

Ruth Adair at home

August 11th, 2008

I finally got to make a day trip to visit my cousin at her beautiful home in North Alabama.  She and her husband raise Arabian horses there.  I am sure Ruth is the only child in her preschool with actual horses at her house!  I’m so glad I got to take pictures of Ruth in her own wondrous environment.
